This is the first time we've had Violet on tour. It is hectic and exhausting and difficult and a damned delight.

She's still too young to understand any of this. Hell, she's still too young to even understand who we are. But having her to come back to in the green room or the hotel is a nice reminder of why I'm doing what I'm doing. Joy is resistance, and I don't have any better source of joy than my wife and daughter.

Violet is starting to smile purposefully and we took her to her first baseball game. The players were happy to to take pictures with her, and one day I'll explain to her who they are. I have a particularly funny picture of her crying with Phillies infielder Edmundo Sosa. The kid doesn't even know what baseball is yet and already she's a Mets fan. Eventually she'll be old enough for the Mets to make her cry, too.

One of these pictures is her in one of my favorite sleepers. Long before I was a comedian, I watched Eddie Izzard's "Glorious" and loved the "covered in bees!" bit. So now every time we put her in this sleeper, Savannah and I enthusiastically say "covered in bees!" I showed Violet the special, but I don't think she really understood it. In her defense, she was sleeping at the time.

Thank you to everyone who has been so kind during this tour (and those of you who have been giving her baby gifts! Not necessary, but so nice).

I can't wait to show her the world. But happy to start with South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
