Update: The LGBTQ cornhole tournament was great fun. About 50 participants, and it felt just like any lesbian environment of yore - lots of hugs, friendliness, support, encouragement. No men. No beards or other evidence of testosterone injections. I know that some of the attendees have non-binary identities but they all looked like women to me, and the pronoun conversation did not come up at all - a relief.

One takeaway for me is that I had been overestimating to what degree lesbian communities are obsessed with and policing this topic. Sometimes, women just get together to play games. They did explicitly include “trans women,” etc, so I was expecting a coed experience - but I’m pretty sure none showed up.

I was also bracing for ostracization due to my public advocacy for female-only sports and spaces, but that did not happen either. The people I knew were happy to see me. Strangers were friendly with one exception, and I think she was just a jerk; I did not take it personally.

My partner and I finished 3rd, but more importantly, enjoyed all 7 or so games. Thanks for joining me on this journey.
