Big companies have always copied startups.

But sometimes they do something even more revealing: they buy the capability first — as a customer — and only later decide whether to internalize it.

Today’s example is from defense: the Pentagon is reportedly looking at Ukrainian interceptor drones because they’re cheap and effective against mass drone attacks.

That’s the same pattern we see in software:

  • platforms move down the stack fast,

  • “baseline” gets repriced,

  • and the winners are the ones who own a workflow (not just a feature).
