The so‑called “27 Club” turns Jim Morrison’s death into part of a darker pattern in music history.

Beyond Morrison, key names include Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, all lost between 1969 and 1971 at 27.  Later, Kurt Cobain’s suicide and Amy Winehouse’s alcohol‑related death at the same age, renewed the myth of a cursed age for fragile, brilliant performers. Earlier still, blues legend Robert Johnson had already died at 27, adding a folkloric, almost demonic edge to the story.
