The discussion around my latest stack reminded me of a stack from last year, where I explored the connection between the Greek and American Revolutions, and how the former seems to have been inspired by the latter. In fact, many key figures of the Greek Revolution corresponded frequently with American politicians—including the future Secretary of State and President, John Quincy Adams—asking for their assistance.
Even in their own internal correspondence, the Greek revolutionaries expressed their admiration for the new American nation and its famous Declaration of Independence, drawing inspiration and ideals from them. Finally, at the end of the post, you will find the relatively unknown story behind John Trumbull's famous painting, along with a truly remarkable case of American Philhellenism.
