🚨Dr. Staci Turner – Mississippi State Medical Examiner

Who she is: Dr. Staci Turner is Mississippi's chief medical examiner, overseeing death investigations for the state. She holds a powerful position—her rulings can determine whether police-involved deaths are investigated as crimes.

The Damien Cameron Case: In 2021, 29-year-old Damien Cameron, a Black man, died after a struggle with RankinCounty sheriff's deputies. Witnesses described two deputies kneeling on his neck for more than 10 minutes. His face was swollen and bloodied, with signs of internal bleeding in his neck.

Dr. Turner's ruling: She classified the cause of death "undetermined" —effectively shutting down further investigation. No charges were filed against the deputies.

What experts say: Three separate independent forensic pathologists reviewed the case at the request of The New York Times and Mississippi Today and all three experts concluded it should have been ruled a homicide. Dr. Michael Baden (who performed George Floyd's autopsy) said: "This person died of asphyxia because of neck compression...There's really nothing to be undetermined about".

The "Goon Squad" connection: One of the deputies involved in Cameron's death, Hunter Elward, later pleaded guilty to federal charges for torturing and sexually humiliating two Black men in a separate case.

The embalming allegation: According to claims from the Channon Wilson family, Dr. Turner's office embalmed their loved one without permission—destroying any evidence that could have proven their case.

This is a clear pattern: Mississippi's medical examiner system has a documented history of shielding law enforcement from accountability.

I encourage everyone to contact Mississippi's state legislators. Demand an independent, federal review of the Medical Examiner's office and its pattern of shielding police from accountability.
