“In the past six months or so there’s been a cultural shift away from everyone being resigned to doomscrolling and a more galvanised move towards people reclaiming their attention spans. I actually think in the next couple of years serious non-fiction could come out of that really well, because nothing says ‘I have a great attention span’ like hefting around a 1,000-page book about Beethoven or the Peasants’ Revolt or something.”
