Good morning! Today, I am launching a new newsletter covering the incredibly fast-moving AI industry: Supervised.
I am starting Supervised to serve decision makers in AI—and anyone who really needs to know what’s happening behind the scenes.
I’ve been covering the industry for more than a decade. During that time we’ve seen so many ZIRP-funded detours that it’s easy to get a little jaded. But the first time I booted up ChatGPT I felt something I haven’t seen since the iPhone: a sense of joy and wonder for the future.
Large language and diffusion models are for real, and are going to fundamentally change the way we operate. But that also means the same challenges we faced with the first iPhone will come along with it.
My hope is that, having covered the industry and worked with the technology personally, I can help readers and decision makers sift through the noise and misdirection the industry will inevitably create.
In short, I want to answer a question I once got from a source: In Supervised, I want to answer the kind of question I got recently from a source: “I’m about to sign a $300,000 contract with this company, and I need to know if it’s going to be around in a year.”
I hope I can answer that, and many other, questions in an industry that has become one of the single-largest arms races in the tech industry’s brief history.
Supervised will begin publishing next week, with issues coming out Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. For now it will remain free, though stories—particularly scoops—will eventually go behind a paywall.
If you have any ideas, questions, or thoughts, please reach out and let me know what they are. You can reach me at m@supervised.news.
