The beautiful Tarot card designs by surrealist artist Leonora Carrington. The cards were discovered in a private collection after Carrington’s passing. Upon their discovery, her son recalled Carrington’s desire to create her own Tarot deck:

“You know, I might design my own deck’ [she says] … The following morning, we walk to a nearby artist’s supply shop, we purchase a couple of thick paperboard sheets.”

Carrington made the cards for her own personal use. She didn’t see them as a game, but as a compass with which she could navigate the inner and outer world.
