Cricket has 2.5 billion fans and has never had a great video game.
An Indian startup just raised $11 million to fix that. LightFury Games put seven of the country's biggest cricketers on its cap table as investors, not brand ambassadors. MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya. They also appear in the game as playable avatars. The product does not exist yet. It ships later this year.
The investor thesis here is not complicated. Football has FIFA. Basketball has NBA 2K. Cricket has nothing. A 2.5 billion person addressable market has been underserved by every major gaming studio for thirty years because none of them were built inside a country where cricket is a religion.
The people who understand the sport best just backed the team building the game. That is not celebrity deal-making. That is domain expertise on the cap table.
