If you think that society has degenerated beyond repair (I agree), then it would be a more useful expenditure of your energy to devote yourself to building up a new society to replace the old one than to deplore passively the lack of civil discourse. In the meantime, the way I try to combat this sad trend is by making sure that my own expressions are civil.
