Days 12 & 13: Deeply observe your environment.

It’s Saturday (in the Northern Hemisphere) so I thought for this prompt we can kick off a “free weekend.” Using some of the skills we’ve picked up so far — INIWIRMO, Puzzle Method for drawing, transcribing what we hear, etc — spend the next two days outside observing nature and record your findings.

Hopefully, by now you’ve found your sit spot and gathered some supplies, so spend some time in your sit spot — look, listen, breathe in all the scents around you. Use the exercise “I notice, I wonder, It reminds me of” to make your notes (same as yesterday). (Alternately, or additionally, you can use the String Safari activity from Day 3.)

Now focus on something that truly captivates you and make notes, schematics, maps, and drawings to represent your experience in nature. As a bonus visit your sit spot regularly and continue observing your one thing. Did anything change? Did you notice anything new about it? Or you can choose a new “one thing” to observe and record. It’s up to you!

Lean into the previous days Notes — generate more questions, create a study page, etc.

Have a wonderful weekend exploring and journaling the natural world!
