this record is a classic. i wouldn’t change a thing about it. i’m not sure if it’s sufjan’s best work, but it’s easily my favorite. the lyrics are heavy, but the guitar work feels light, almost ethereal. it has everything without ever feeling like too much, songwriting, performances, haunting vocals, and beautiful instrumentation. it just works.
