Shortly after I wrote this, I read the AP headlines and see a celebrity wife is suing her ex-husband for posting “deep-fake” naked porn photos of her. No, I don’t know them, but this is a sordid vengeful tale we are accustomed to hearing.
Does this refute my claim that AI has been a failure in porn? No, and I’ll tell you why.
Revenge-porn cruelties are not a consumer industry, they are not done for money. There’s no business model here. They are done to humiliate and dominate the victim, to hurt them, period, even though “everyone” knows, from the get-go, the photos are fake. It’s not their veracity at issue, it’s the screaming hyena of misogyny getting their licks in.
It’s the same kind of thing with the cringing racist memes we see posted by Trump and his cabinet members, that are beneath contempt. They’re not even “trying” to use AI to achieve verisimilitude. The same bathroom wall scrawl as there ever was . . .
