A message from EIGHT/MOVES Artistic Director Mia J. Chong:

The EIGHT/MOVES artists are back in the studio diving into the new piece Rena Butler and I are building. We are creating an exciting trio that tunes into each artist’s individuality and pulls new textures out of the group. It’s been exciting to see the dancers take on another choreographic perspective and physicality. The emotional versatility they’ve been exploring is fulfilling one of my central goals for the company — creating the space for artists to take on challenges with bravery and support.

Working with Rena has been really inspiring for me. She is such a deep creator: her approach to choreography is so nuanced and thoughtful, and our collaboration has been full of surprises. I’ve dreamed of collaborating with her since we both won Princess Grace Awards in 2019, so we’re honored to have her in the studio!
