This whole “work-life balance” trope reflects a failure of imagination.
The problem isn’t that people work too much. The problem is most people tolerate work that feels deadening and then console themselves with the fantasy that “balance” will make it all okay.
But if you’re segmenting your day into “work” (suffering) and “life” (salvation), you’re dividing your life into parts you endure and parts you chase, and never feeling at home in either.
