It’s Time for Real Action — Not More Finger-Pointing

The NDP revelations today are deeply concerning. A staffer in the Premier’s office and UCP President Rob Smith allegedly knew about the massive voter data breach weeks ago — including the exposure of Jason Kenney’s home address — and failed to immediately alert authorities or the public.

This only strengthens the urgent case for:

·         An immediate independent public judicial inquiry into the breach.

·         Full transparency on exactly who knew what and when.

·         Immediate fixes to Elections Alberta’s powers, including reversing the damaging changes in Bill 54.

Albertans deserve real protection — not excuses and delays.

The breach exposed the personal information of nearly 3 million Albertans (names, addresses, birthdates, and more). This data is now in the wild and can be used for identity theft, phishing, frauds, and harassment.

What you should do immediately:

·         Change your passwords on all important accounts (email, banking, government services) and enable two-factor authentication.

·         Monitor your bank accounts and credit reports closely for suspicious activity.

·         Be extremely cautious with any unexpected emails, texts, or phone calls claiming to be from Elections Alberta, government, or banks.

·         Talk to the seniors in your life — many are especially vulnerable to these frauds.

·         Update your antivirus/software and keep receipts if you pay for any protection services.

·         Report any suspicious activity to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and your local police.

This breach is serious and dangerous. Albertans’ safety and privacy must come first.

It’s time to stop the political games and deliver real solutions today. An independent judicial inquiry is the bare minimum. Anything less is unacceptable.

What do you think should happen next?
