I enjoy volunteering in my community. One thing that I look for, are opportunities to shoot for non-profit organizations that work in a field I have interest in. The picture that I am posting for this Passion Project, comes by way of a group called, Pablove.
Based in Los Angeles, Pablove, helps children with cancer. They have a program for kids undergoing treatment called, “Shutterbugs”. They give the child a camera, pair that kid with a photographer, and get the kid taking pictures (hopefully, taking their mind off their treatments).
If I were still living in Denver, I would certainly be involved in this project.
At the conclusion of the program, the kids get to pick their favorite shots and Pablove frames them, and exhibits them in a gallery. My involvement with Pablove, was as a shooter for the opening of this gallery exhibition.
The kids were there, with friends and family, standing in front of their pictures. The picture that I am posting is of one of the children in the exhibition. Her name is, Daisy. She was holding her camera, looking like she wasn’t sure about all the goings-on, so I asked her to take my picture.
I wish that I would have had the presence of mind to ask her to send me a copy of her shot. Alas.
BTW, the kids get to keep the cameras.
