Confession: I also became a bit of a thief on this visit, snitching random self-sown plants from gravel paths and the lawn, including lamb’s ear (Stachys byzantina), variegated mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris), and two seedlings of a red Japanese maple. All were abundant, and I’m sure I was doing a service by helping out with the weeding. (Right? Right.)
