I enjoy working at the food bank, especially because I see a lot of the same people. We chat, sing and dance to the familiar tunes they play, and just be of service while enjoying each others company.

There’s an incredible person I see often who is highly organized. I love watching her meticulously arrange vegetables so we can pack in more.

Today was the assembly line and it moves fast so we have to get everything in and moving. She was towards the end working next to the high school students who had a very specific assignment.

She was next to one of the teens and organizing the bags, instructing the youth on how to properly place the item. I could tell the teen was super annoyed, but they didn’t say anything. Mind you, the students at the end organize and close the bags, but our super organizer kept doing it before them, thus, holding up the assembly line.

One of the lead volunteers came over and asked if she wanted to organize the cans at the front of the assembly line and she lit up; “organize” she said. She smiled and hurried to the front to take on the task. After she left the teen defiantly threw their designated item at the top of the bag and moved it along. The assembly line ran more smoothly.

The lead volunteer walked by and said, “Good, we’re finally moving.” I chuckled.

The ladies next to me were putting noodles in the bags while I placed in the rice. I have an interesting pet peeve I think comes from my time working at a drug store in my late teens/early 20’s.

At my previous job, management instructed us to stock items a certain way, bag them meticulously, and even arrange the money in the cash register so every bill faced the same way. To this day I still have those practices on my personal life.

Back to the noodles. The ladies were chatting and putting in the boxes upside down and it secretly bothered me. When we had a back log, I would wait till she looked away, and flip the boxes right side up, lol.

I laughed at myself and our super organized volunteer. The quirks we all have in life are interesting to me. I love watching people and their behaviors, it’s fun.
