Make money doing the work you believe in

Time is Money

I remember hearing this growing up and today, I learned the hard way.

Today I planned a laundry day. I mean clothes, blankets, sheets, pillows, and sofa coverings. I could’ve driven to my favorite laundromat about 15 minutes away, but it would’ve cost me about $50 to get everything cleaned. So, I chose to wash where we live for half the cost without driving.

I planned to wash the lighter items on my side in the morning, then move to the other side for blankets, sheets, and pillows. Simple, right?

I started at 7am, and actually finished on my side at 10am. Great! I moved onto the other to wash the blankets. For some reason, they didn’t rinse, so I had to rewash on my side.

Had I gone to the laundromat, I would’ve been done in two hours, three if you count folding and transpiration time. But, 10 hours later I’m still doing laundry. I did take a two hour break to the my dog to the vet, so it’s actually been eight hours of laundry.

Initially, I tried to justify my choice by saying I was able to get things done since I stayed home. I did complete a MAJOR task. Got some emailing done, which I could’ve done from my phone anyway. And, I was able to slip out and do some grocery shopping. But, had I gone to the laundromat I would’ve been able to do all that anyway.

I saved $30 by washing at home, but I’ve wasted my entire day and am exhausted. Now I’m too tired to mop and still need to wash the rugs.

So, what I’ve learned is how valuable my time is. Yes, I saved $30, which is a HUGE difference. But I didn’t complete all I had planned and I’m worn out.

Until I own my home and property with a washer and dryer, on big laundry days I’m going to the laundromat. Period!

Side note: this doesn’t happen often. My son is coming home from college so instead of washing in small bits, I chose to get everything done today. Not ever again I tell you!

Time is money.

Blessings!
