I’m f*cking overwhelmed.
Every morning when I wake up, my first thought is “what do I have to do today?”
I’m stuck in a cycle of “omg I have so much to do so I better push through”, followed by a day, or two, sometimes three of sitting on the lounge tumbling down a YouTube shorts rabbit hole, not even remotely enjoying anything I’m watching.
I’m told it’s the product of beginning to overcome major burnout.
Now I feel well enough to work on the tasks that have been in the “I just can’t right now” bin for over a year, I’m finally seeing the list of things I neglected. And that list has been slowly eating away at me.
So I’ve done two things.
1. I’m pushing back restarting The Daily DM in 2026 by at least a week.
2. I changed my to-do list to just 3 tasks:
One Physical: [like fixing the railing on out front deck]
One Mental: [like changing my Gumroad payments to my new bank account]
One Other: [like leaving the house or making a phone call; they take a different kind of effort]
Point 2 seems to be working ok so far. The lengthy to-do list is still below these 3 points, but I’m not checking it multiple times a day like I was.
Will keep you posted on how it goes.
In the meantime, how do you manage to-do list overwhelm?
