Make money doing the work you believe in

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want the next chapter of my writing life to look like.

Not just the books themselves, but the space around them.

I want to build a real sense of community here around the Crescent Moon world. To create a place where stories can unfold in installments, side characters get their moment, maps and lore and odd little artifacts live, and readers who love these books can linger if they want to. This week, I was especially inspired by a New York Times story about Matt Dinniman’s path as a serial novelist. With my Wattpad background, I’ve realized I’m a serial novelist at heart.

I’m also excited about meeting more writers here on Substack, having deeper conversations about craft and publishing, and launching a new podcast with LL Kirchner. It’s called YOU SHOULD TOTALLY WRITE THAT, and we’ll be launching in January. It’s honest, curious, and very much about what it’s actually like to build a writing life.

As I look toward 2026, I feel truly, ridiculously, energized. Not rushed. Not panicked. Just excited in a steady, grounded way. Like I’m building something that feels right for my brain, my books, and my readers.

If you’re here to read, to poke around the world, to listen, or just to be in the room while things take shape, I’m really glad you’re here.

More soon. xo, Tara
