Should human writers abandon the em dash entirely?

A lot of writers are saying: absolutely not.

The real answer is probably: use it sparingly, and make everything else signal 'human.'

Personal stories. Emotional depth. Opinions that only come from lived experience.

The em dash isn't the problem. Leaning on it as a crutch while producing flat, generic prose is.

AI can mimic your punctuation. It still can’t mimic your life.
