United Kingdom Updates Consumer Dispute Resolution Regulations

The United Kingdom has introduced new regulations linked to the Digital Markets Competition and Consumers Act 2024 that update how consumer disputes are handled outside the courts. These changes affect alternative dispute resolution, often called โ€œADRโ€.

ADR schemes allow people to resolve complaints about services or products without going through a long and expensive court process. Instead, independent organisations (e.g. arbitrators) review the complaint and suggest a fair outcome. These schemes are commonly used in areas such as telecommunications, and financial services.

The new regulations mainly update legal references and make sure existing ADR systems work properly alongside the new consumer protection rules introduced in the Act.

Many people rely on these ADR systems when something goes wrong with a service/product. A simple and reliable way to resolve disputes can save time, reduce stress, and help people get problems sorted without needing a lawyer.
