One of my biggest disappointments with the direction of health AI is the insane emphasis on revenue cycle management tools over care management and patient education tools.

Hopefully this is changing, but the enthusiasm over tools that help with IC10 coding, prior auth appeal and revenue cycle management further illustrate that our health system priorities are completely broken. This is why I am a fan of the value-based care experiment, even though it has had its faltering, failing, and slow uptake (the emphasis on financial engineering as a VBC strategy infuriates me).

Incentivizing physicians and health organizations for outcomes over volume makes pragmatic sense. And patients deserve a better consumer-grade experience as their episode of care is being managed. There's no doubt there.
