Yesterday, I saw myself quoted in an AI-generated article on jazz. But the quote was fake—nothing I’d ever said and (even worse) factually incorrect. I fear this bogus citation will now reappear in other slop articles.
And what recourse do I have? None whatsoever.
This elevation of error is already a crisis, but it will only get worse. A few years from now, nobody will be able to distinguish truth from deception in any field of inquiry.
Meanwhile the people best situated to stop this mess are actually the instigators. Even Orwell never imagined such a degradation of public discourse.
