In his memoir Hitch-22, Christopher Hitchens denies that he is a heavy drinker. His cautious daily consumption is limited to (1) a midday slug of whisky, (2) a half bottle of wine at lunch (sometimes more), (3) at least another half bottle at dinner, and (4) an occasional nightcap. Such restraint is admirable.
