South African jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim leave us at age 91.
In the early 1960s, Duke Ellington helped launch his career, when Ibrahim was known as Dollar Brand. He was a trailblazer in both music and social causes—serving as an ambassador for the anti-apartheid movement and playing a key role in the globalization of jazz.
Along the way he released more than 70 albums. and stayed active into his 90s. What a remarkable legacy!
