the obvious solution to the AI problem in college liberal arts programs is to take the Oxbridge approach and ask students to verbally explain and defend arguments made in essays and on assignments. No one learns anything in 200-person lectures anyway. Almost all the actual learning happens in tutorials.

And yes this means reforming the TA and adjunct system — which honestly seems a lot more likely and achievable than telling kids they can’t have a robot write their essays for them.
