Great write up. Politics makes strange bedfellows. What is most amazing is that Jat Sikhs are only 18% of Punjab's population, yet dominate the political arena. The surnames you mention -- Dhillon, Majithia, Mann, and all the stalwarts of the SGPC not to mention Congressies like Bajwa etc. Who are all the Dalits and OBCs in Punjab (almost 50% of the population supporting)? I went to the Dera Beas almost three decades ago and it seemed to be mostly lower income rural Jat Sikh families plus some non-Punjabi folks. Is the Sikh Jat vote really that important? If the Jat Sikh vote is divided among Akalis and Congressies, then how can they always be in power with 9% of the vote. Something does not add up.
