Amazing read. Had not realized that the Shiromani in SGPC is "Crown Jewel". What a joke. This institution is the exact opposite and does not deserve be to the apex body of the Sikhs. The last elections were held in 2011!! The voter registration for the last SGPC elections was only 5.2m voters when there are at least 18m Sikhs voters in Punjab. It is okay to collect chadawa and prashad from Sehajdharis but they are not allowed to vote or hold any positions. The voter registration form on the website is a joke. Why do people have to declare that they are ST or SC? Why is that requirement? I thought Sikhism got rid of the caste system. The langar is an enduring symbol of that. My biggest problem with the SGPC is that NO financial accounts have been published, ever. More than $250m of annual revenues estimated but no accounting to anyone. The least these august group of Sikhs that claim to speak for the entire Sikh community in Punjab can do is at least give all us commoners a glance at how all the money that is collected in these gurudwaras is being spent. Now that the Head Granthi and ex Akal Takht Jathedar is alleging corruption, perhaps it is time to appoint a fact finding committee and get some accounting. The SGPC is the successor of the movement that wrested the control of the gurudwaras and the Sikh religion from the Mahants. Maybe it is time to reform the SGPC and rescue the religion and the gurudwaras from their control and turn it to a new organization that is more in tune with the 21st century. All the accounts should be in the open. What is the secrecy for? No more backroom sweetheart deals. REFORM TIME
