Reading about “the death of the slop bowl” (aka no one wants to buy $20 salads anymore) is so real—it feels like portion sizes are smaller (and I’ve seen real evidence that they are), it’s cheaper to make it at home (even with the rising cost of groceries), and it’s so much easier to make it home now that hybrid work culture is here to stay (if I go to the office Tuesday-Wednesday, I can meal prep 3 lunches when I cook lunch on Monday when I WFH). There are also sooo many competitors out there, so on the rare chance I’m picking up lunch, I never go for Sweetgreen anymore.
