I spent $14K to learn to make my business fail.
I joined a coaching program* with all the red flags:
Yup. I fell for the scam. Hard.
Over the next three months, I spent 6-7 hours a day completing items on their task list:
25% of my mailing list unsubscribed.
my client caseload dropped by 67%.
my business revenue dropped by 74%.
I asked for my money back, and they refused. I’d completed 727/800 items on their required task list, and time was up.
I spent the next several months wallowing in self-pity, eating regret for breakfast.
I was broken.
One morning, I put my cup down on my ancestor shrine and bumped the picture of my very first spiritual teacher, Rev. Phil Laporte. As I propped his picture up again, I heard Phil’s gentle voice inside my head, “Stop shoulding all over yourself, it doesn’t smell good on you.”
I immediately took a shower. A long one. I washed all my regrets and woulda/shoulda/couldas down the drain.
Then, with my wet hair still tied up in a towel, I opened an account with Substack.
I’m a writer damnit. It’s time I be serious about writing.
