At my coliving community, we care for each other’s pets without question.
Our community has 5 dogs, 6 cats, and 1 rabbit.
Whether we’re traveling internationally or are just going to be home late and need someone to feed or walk our pets, it’s just something we do for each other for free.
I travel often and have a cat.
It costs around $40/day to board a pet.
That means in the 1.5 years that I’ve lived in my community, I’ve saved $3,520 of what I would have to pay in care.
And it’s only possible because I live near people I care about and who care about me and my furry companion.
Shared care is a feature of the kinds of intentional communities that I am building.
Whether it’s child care, elder care, or pet care, this is how we used to live — sharing responsibilities so we can all thrive.
I’ve been calculating recently how much money I save in community, if you’re curious for more insights, come follow Terrenity.
