Last night I woke in the early hours with an intense sensation of deep fear in my heart center; a burning coal of dread.
This morning I’m in a cafe with K on a warm breezy morning on the sleepy KwaZulu coast by the Indian Ocean watching business as usual roll on.
I’m here because we just finished co-leading a truly sacred month-long silent meditation retreat with a beautiful group of practitioners and activists at Dharmagiri Sacred Mountain, a small sanctuary we founded in 2000, nestled within the high uKhahlamba-Drakensberg mountains on the border of South Africa and Lesotho.
However, I’m also with a far bleaker picture of a world pausing at a crossroad - either we slide into a pit of unaccountable atrocities and barbarism or, even at this late hour, we become a world united in resistance forging a radically different future.
Today in the U.S. is the No Kings protests - in London the People’s Alliance protest against the far right. Looks like millions will be on the streets. Protests that can only succeed if translated into revolutionary focus and the sacrifices that entails. Are we ready for this yet?
Or, do we sit by as ICE thugs pull people of planes because they have a Hispanic name, as they smash a mother to the ground, like what happened at SFO airport, as her child screams. As person after person take the bottles of water ICE hands out at an airport (ffs). As rights are erased day in day out, as chaos strategy poisons all.
As genocide and war crimes continue to be normalized?
I really don’t know, but I know what my heart is says. We’re in deep trouble and there’s only really one clear choice to make.
Thanks one and all for all your brave posts… wave after wave of calling out the bs, upping resistance while diving ever deeper to undo the insane logic of empire… y’all are slicing away at its monstrous tentacles. ❤️🔥🙌☘️
Looking forward to return to the fray 🙏🙂🪶
