Internet is spreading misinformation about my country.
Hello everyone. Today, I want to address something important and different from my regular anime/psychology content. For months, I’ve seen misinformation spreading about my country, and as someone who loves both the truth and my homeland, I want to clear things up.
I am from Latvia. Recently, the internet has been flooded with a specific narrative: that Latvia has so few men that women are "desperate" for attention, willing to pay men to date them, or eager to support husbands financially due to a "demographic crisis."
The Misinterpretation of Data
The reason people believe this lie is that they don't know how to read demographic data. While it is technically true that the overall ratio is roughly 0.86 males per female, that doesn't tell the whole story.
Foreigners often assume this means there is a shortage of men across all age groups. That is false.
Under 42 years old: There are actually more men than women. If you are looking for a partner in her 20s or 30s, you will face significant competition because men currently outnumber women in those brackets.
Over 42 years old: This is where the deficit begins. The statistical gap is driven almost entirely by the shorter life expectancy of men in older generations.
The Reality
If you are looking for a bride over the age of 45, the math is in your favor. But if you think Latvian women in their 20s are "easy to get" or desperate for a husband to support, you are mistaken. In reality, young men in Latvia are the ones competing for the attention of women.
Don't believe everything you see in a viral video, Latvian women are independent, and the "shortage of men" isn't what the internet makes it out to be.
