Phishing Attacks: Phishing is one of the most prevalent and damaging cyber threats facing individuals and small businesses in the UK.
These attacks typically arrive via email but can also occur through text messages, or social media. The aim is simple: to trick recipients into revealing sensitive information such as usernames and passwords.
For small businesses, a successful phishing attack can have devastating consequences. Cyber criminals may steal login credentials, gain access to internal systems, or even execute fraudulent debit or credit card transactions after tricking you into disclosing your card details. Unlike larger corporations, small businesses often lack robust cyber defences and comprehensive staff training, making them an easy target.
Defence against phishing starts with awareness and education. Employees or family members should be trained to spot red flags, such as unexpected attachments or links in emails, unusual sender addresses, and urgently worded requests.
A password manager can provide another layer of protection, as it will refuse to auto fill login details on a fake / scam sign in screen.
