A colleague sent me a tip a few months ago about a future-themed exhibition at MEG in Geneva. It came through our horizon scanning, as we had recently run a collection about people’s thoughts on the future. So while I was in Geneva, I made sure to visit.
It was a fascinating exhibition, especially in the way it defines the future across different periods and perspectives, weaving together timekeeping, meteorology, artists and children’s imaginations. Well worth a visit.
Then, just as I was about to leave, I wandered through the permanent exhibition Encounters, which brings together human art and material culture from every continent.
It completely took me by surprise.
It felt like stepping into a time machine that no longer had to obey either time or space. Just a distillation of the human species. Which is, of course, anything but “just”.
Wow.
