The Rangers didn’t win last night’s game on a hit. They won it on a decision.
Seattle leaving Logan Gilbert in for the 6th inning
Seager singles to right
Wild pitch advances him
Jake Burger double scores him
The run is credited to Burger, but it’s created by:
Fatigue
Command slippage
Managerial tolerance of that fatigue
Gilbert was close to unhittable until the 6th. Nimmo tagged a pitch to right field, right at Luke Raley. Gilbert stayed in and faced Seager. A line drive out to right field that drops. Dealing with fatigue and loss of command, Gilbert throws an errant pitch that allows Seager to move to second base. Gilbert stays in, and Burger ropes a double over Arozarena’s head. The damage doesn’t start with contact, it starts with loss of command. Situational baseball dictates games aren’t decided by big swings. They’re decided by factors of the game that allow for capitalizing on missed cues.
