It’s sad. I grew up in a “leave it to beaver” suburb of Richmond, VA but knowing I was different put fear in me of police. Plus watching Rodney King live as a Kindergartner and the lack of prosecution blew my mind and forever told me: “police beat and kill people” (Richmond had a top 10 murder rate surpassing NYC in the ‘90s so police/gang violence was nightly news you toned out until Barbara Walters came on, or you switched to Tom brokaw etc
