The very short list of people who conquered Persia/Iran:

Alexander the Great.

The Arab Caliphates.

Genghis Khan.

Tamerlane.

The Afghans (briefly).

That’s pretty much it.

Five in 2,500 years. Each one a world-historic force of nature. Each one with massive ground armies willing to absorb staggering losses. Each one fighting for years, not weeks.

Donald Trump thinks he belongs on this list.

Meanwhile, you know who couldn’t do it?

Rome.

Not the Roman Republic. Not the Roman Empire. Not the Eastern Roman Empire after it. They tried for 500 years. Crassus tried. They poured molten gold down his throat. Trajan tried. Julian the Apostate tried — died in the desert for his trouble. The most powerful empire in the history of western civilization threw everything it had at Persia, generation after generation, and never conquered it.

The Ottomans couldn’t do it. Four hundred years of war. They came close. They took Iraq. But they didn’t seize Persia

Saddam Hussein couldn’t do it. Eight years. A million dead. The border didn’t move.

But sure. Airstrikes and Truth Social posts will get it done.
