The app for independent voices

I wonder if the most significant aspect of the Swiss model of the Champions League is that it introduces to football the notion that not every team in a league has to play each of the others home and away.

That could have profound consequences for, say, the 39th Game initiative, or for major tournaments in that it would remove the constraint of having to think in four-team groups. Why stop at 48 teams for the World Cup or 20 teams for the Premier League? Have as many sides as you want each play…

Hallo

Today I start using Substack

I used to like Twitter but always felt very constrained by the 144 limit

This brought problems for the irony-challenged, who misunderstood a lot of what I was trying to say

This is a particular problem for me because I seem to be regarded as ‘on the left’ by people on the right, and' ‘on the right’ by people on the left

Apparently this makes me controversial, and therefore box office poison

A few thoughts on the increasing hostility toward AimPoint and the people who employ it.

Why Aimpoint Offends

You made it, you own it

You always own your intellectual property, mailing list, and subscriber payments. With full editorial control and no gatekeepers, you can do the work you most believe in.

Btw, Christianity is true.

Last year, I did way too much.

I was trying to grow on multiple platforms simultaneously, testing them constantly, searching for a perfect fit. Some of these included:

  • Twitter

  • Instagram

  • TikTok

  • Pinterest

  • Bluesky

  • Tumblr

  • YouTube

  • Threads

It was exhausting and mostly pointless.

Somewhere along the way, I started using Medium, and then Substack. And things finally clicked.

I found a home for my writing (between the two).

This year, my goal was to simplify my process, distilling it down to only what worked and brought me joy.

That’s why, though I still have a presence on most of the aforementioned platforms, the only two I actively use are Medium and Substack.

They’re exactly what I was searching for, and I’ve never felt more content about my future as a writer.

Less really is more.
