Rowling stirred the cauldron and started receiving death threats for her views on transgenderism, the most successful Wizard franchise before her boy Harry, ironically enough, featured a princess trapped in a little boy’s body—Oz’s Princess Ozma. The trans character was played in the 1960 adaptation not only by a Republican but by the very symbol of pre-war American innocence: Shirley Temple.
