As a nurse, I work with many patients who have mental illnesses. I've found it helpful to ask them about the tattoos on their bodies. Often, I notice that the voices they hear and the demons they see are represented somewhere in their tattoos. Patients frequently want to share the names of these demons, explaining how they became their imaginary friends growing up, when they first appeared in their dreams, or how their encounters began while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Eventually this demon goes from being their friend to their worst nightmare.”. Comment
