The app for independent voices

I’m posting this on Easter weekend, which feels risky.

But technically Jesus doesn’t resurrect until day three… and this is only day two… so I think I’ve got a window here before I get smited for sharing statistics.

Let’s see what happens.

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole after a conversation today… and honestly, I didn’t expect what I found.

Statistically, most Christians in Canada and the U.S. actually accept evolution in some form. Usually it’s framed as “God-guided evolution,” but still… not the hardcore creationism I grew up around.

Rough numbers: Canada: only about 20–30% of Christians lean creationist

U.S.: roughly 30–40%, but way higher in evangelical circles

The majority fall somewhere in the evolution camp.

That kind of stopped me in my tracks.

Because my experience was Completely different.

I grew up steeped in evangelical culture. Church, youth group, Christian school. Did a YWAM DTS. Mission trip to Costa Rica.Youth Pastor. Worship Drummer. I wasn’t brushing up against that world… I was fully inside it. Creationism wasn’t debated.

So yeah… turns out I wasn’t seeing the full picture. I was seeing a very specific slice of it.

I guess your environment doesn’t just influence what you believe… it defines what you think is normal.

Also worth noting… people are leaving the church in pretty significant numbers. In both Canada and the U.S., Christianity has been declining for years, especially among younger generations. That probably plays into this shift too.
