A federal judge in Texas called a protest outside an ICE facility “an assault on democracy,” then handed nine demonstrators 30 to 100 years in prison.
The charge was terrorism. The theory was that they were an “antifa cell.” An officer was shot that night and survived. Prosecutors called the whole thing a premeditated attack. The defense called it a protest.
This is the first case built on the new presidential memo labeling antifa a “domestic terrorist organization.” The template exists now. They’ll use it again….but on Data Center / AI protests.
Details below:
1) Nine people who demonstrated outside a Texas ICE facility just got 30 to 100 years in federal prison. Seven more who pleaded guilty got up to 15. The charge wasn’t trespassing, it was terrorism.
2) one year ago, July 4, 2025, outside the Prairieland Detention Center near Fort Worth. Fireworks, vandalism, and an officer shot in the neck. He survived and has recovered. That much both sides agree on.
3) After that, the stories split. Prosecutors said it was a coordinated ambush by an “antifa cell,” pointing to body armor and tactical gear. The defense said it was a late-night protest for immigrants and that anyone armed was there for their own protection.
4) The judge, Reed O’Connor, called the protest “an assault on democracy” before sentencing. One former Marine reservist convicted of attempted murder got 100 years. Others got 30, 50, 70.
5) The reason this case matters beyond Texas is bc it’s the first prosecution built on the presidential memo that designates antifa a “domestic terrorist organization.” There is no federal domestic terrorism charge in US law but this is the workaround.
6) Legal scholars are warning the obvious…if “assault on democracy” plus an antifa label can turn a protest into a life sentence, that reach doesn’t stop at this facility, this state, or this movement. Watch who it gets pointed at next. My bet is Data Centers, AI, anyone against this corrupt administration, and anyone against “our greatest ally”…..
