As of Feb 2026, China is making steady progress toward powering the C919 with its own engine.
The CJ-1000A turbofan, developed by Aero Engine Corporation of China (AECC), has reportedly accumulated over 5,000 flight test hours — a major milestone.
However, the COMAC C919 is still flying with LEAP-1C engines from CFM International (GE + Safran). The domestic engine has not yet entered commercial passenger service.
If certification proceeds as expected, we could see the first C919 powered by a fully Chinese engine within the next 1–2 years.
