Lachlan Giles’ ADCC 2019 run is a perfect example of what can happen if you compete with an information advantage.

He submitted three elite heavyweights in a row, despite giving up around 40 pounds.

The key wasn’t that his opponents were bad at defending leg locks; it was where he attacked from.

K-Guard flipped the inside-position logic popularised by the DDS.

By working from an outside position, Giles gained stronger frames (to keep off the weight of heavier opponents) and cleaner access to backside 50/50 entries.

By the time his opponents recognised the position they were in wasn’t what they thought it was, it was too late.

And that delay was enough to cause one of the biggest chains of upsets in ADCC history.

Information advantages don’t last forever, but while they do, they’re decisive.
