Yakubian Ape has a talent for weaving engaging yarns about fascinating subjects. I think many of us already know this. Personally, I find he’s at his best with subjects that are equal parts funny, entertaining, informative, and carry a deeper core of meaning to them. “Frances and Elsie’s Fantastic Fairy Friends,” which details a prank from two English children that got blown vastly out of proportion after the close of the Great War, is one of those stories. It’s a lengthy read, but make time for it anyway. It’s both wonderfully entertaining, and rich with valuable insights into the human experience that are worth extracting.
